This course is intended for the 3rd-yr and 4th-yr undergraduate students, who is interested in evolution of modern and fossil coral reefs and their relation with global change and paleoclimate. This course will allow students absorbing enough basic and advanced background. It covers topics from coral spawning and symboisis, coral calcification, coral development, Quaternary reef terraces, impact of global warming on coral reef, limestone, carbonate geochemistry and application to earth sciences. Paper reading, discussion and presentation will play essential roles in class. One 4-day field trip to diverse sites in southern Taiwan will be conducted.
